VOCATIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT (CHRISTIAN AID AND NETHERLANDS EMBASSY, NEW DELHI:(2011-2015) for tribal-Dalit youth in south Odisha, India:

  • In 2011 VICALP started providing market-relevant, employment-oriented skill training in Mohana, in the Gajapati district of Odisha. First, 75 young people, both male and female, from marginalised and excluded tribal and Dalit groups were recruited. They were then given the opportunity to get placement-guaranteed vocational skill training in the trades of electronics, masonry, and electricians. Following the training, the learners received assistance in finding suitable jobs in private businesses and industries. In the following two years, VICALP and "Globsyn Skills, Calcutta"worked together to offer regular certificate programmes in vocational training that were approved by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a Central Government initiative, and related to specific jobs. Over 500 young men and womenbenefited by finding productive jobs in the manufacturing and service sectors.
